ROTTWEILER BOOKS

THE WORLD OF ROTTWEILERS
This book published in 1986 by Anna Katherine Nicholas has many show photos of the dogs from the past. It has a brief history how the Rottweiler originated, and where. Also, is a long list of breeders/kennels from all over the world. It tells how they came about and what their future holds. This also has great tips in caring for your Rottweiler, and getting involved with activities for your dog and you. It can also be used as a great pedigree resource.

THE PROFESSIONAL'S BOOK OF ROTTWEILERS
Every page is glossed and makes a great coffee table piece. Published in 1991 by Anna Katherine Nicholas this hard cover has nearly 700 full-color photos. Just like her previous book it covers the kennels of the day. It also is an informative source for caring, events, and pedigrees. This is truly a must to have in your collection.

THE BOOK OF THE ROTTWEILER
This one dates back to 1981 and is another Anna Katherine Nicholas. This goes way back to some of the first Rotties recorded in Germany. Anyways, this book, like the others, has a great amount of information.

THE COMPLETE ROTTWEILER
This time we have a book by a respectable breeder named Muriel Freeman in 1984. This is truly a breeders experience talking in this one. A must for those who want an indepth knowledge of the breed. A book that makes you hungry to read it!

THE BASIC GUIDE TO THE ROTTWEILER
Published in 1996 this is written by several breeders who know the breed, and is intended for the novice. This has the standard, info. on finding a reputable breeder, paper work on the new puppy, training, caring, health, breeding, and much more. It is a great book to give to puppy buyers. Also, this is a wonderful library piece because you could know many of the writers/breeders that speak.

THE ULTIMATE ROTTWEILER (Second Edition)
This is a wonderfully put together book for the novice owner. Published in 1995 and edited by Andrew Brace this is packed with so much information that a new owner should never go without. It has a big part of how the Rottweiler goes through different stages in its life, as a child would. It gives information on training, nutrition, health, diseases, etc.  A favorite part of this book is The Judge's View. It has three judges, one each from AKC, UK, and ADRK giving their critiques on the dogs that are pictured in different positions. An excellent tool to learn the standard. This is another great book to give to puppy buyers.

THE ROTTWEILER TODAY
This book gives us a different perspective to look at the breed wrote by breeders from the UK, Judy and Larry Elsden. Published in 1992 it gives information in the way they view Rotties. Still packed with info from experienced breeders.

The Dog Listener: Learn How to Communicate with Your Dog for Willing Cooperation
"One of my favo's is The Dog Listener by Jan Fennell. It's not really a Rottweiler book but it's a great one for just getting to know how dogs think and why they do what they do.. The one I have is a two parter, The first part of it tells all about dogs and how we should communicate with them, plus a few story's of her own experiences. The second part is a training guide, It's awesome. I would recommend it to everyone. It's a great read, I couldn't put it down when I  bought it. She actually is the one that explains about the 5 min rule, which I was doing but not to the extent that she explains it."
